Page Schindler BuchananGBSN Member School Fundação Dom Cabral (FDC) is doing some great work to use business education for good in Brazil. They are interested in finding out what other schools are doing in social responsibility to learn from colleagues around the globe and possibly even collaborate!

Information from FDC on their social responsibility activities:Fundacao dom Cabral

Fundação Dom Cabral (FDC) is a business school located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil and Member of GBSN since 2011. It keeps itself aligned to its mission to contribute to the sustainable development of society by developing sustainability projects that will enhance nearby communities and promote their social well-being. Through its Social Innovations/Opportunities for All work group, the FDC sustainability committee develops the following projects:

Roots Project
FDC has set up a personal development program for the group of teenagers who make up the FDC administration department support staff. This program aims to enhance their worldview by helping them to build and strengthen their sense of citizenship and confidence while gaining a better understanding of the different roles they play in society. By applying methodologies that use art as a means to promote learning processes, the project is divided into seven roots that involve visits to museums and parks to encourage learning.

Dignity Project – businesses to reduce social inequalities
This project aims to encourage and develop entrepreneurs who seek to reduce Latin American inequality, beginning by Brazil, through ideas or projects whose final products or services will generate social, environmental and economic benefits. We are currently developing the skills of 20 social entrepreneurs in the fields of technology, the environment and education.

Telecentro Max Magalhaes
In Capão Grosso, is a facility dedicated to social inclusion and citizenship development for the region’s students, teachers and dwellers. FDC supports the center by training IT teachers and donating material to offer a room with ten computers, Internet access and a network server at Escola Municipal Dom Orione, a local government-run school for 1st to 5th grade children in Jaboticatubas county. Over 200 local people benefit from the facility, and a pedagogic project is also being developed to raise the school’s teaching standards.

Support for Jardim Canadá - Company and Social Organization Development Project – PDEOS.
Actions to encourage and promote sustainable management for business and community leaders from underserved communities through partnerships between local companies and social organizations. It aims to afford sustainable development for the Jardim Canadá region, and over 30 partnerships have already been developed since the project started running one year ago.

The Opportunities Counter
It is a database of freelance professionals who work at the Jardim Canadá region, and it aims to generate work and income opportunities for them. It sets up partnerships with training institutions and associations from the community.

The Scholarship Project
It grants scholarship to underserved youth from the Belo Horizonte metropolitan region to enable them to attend specialization courses. At the end of the course, the young grantees present a project that will be developed by an NGO; alternatively, they set up a new business in an underserved region. There are currently 12 grantees.

Professional Skills-Building Center
Professional skills-building support for young people and adults who live in socially vulnerable regions. About 60 people have already attended and been trained by the center’s automobile mechanics, administration staff, and sewing courses.

FDC is a signatory to the Globally Responsibly Leadership Initiative, Principles for Responsible Management Education and The Global Compact.
