It’s hard to believe that at our annual
conference in Tunis (June 10-12, 2013) this year we will celebrate our tenth
birthday together. The theme is of utmost importance: Education, Employment and
Entrepreneurship. I hope you will join
us and co-hosts Babson College and the Mediterranean School of Business. This conference will be more than a celebration,
it will be a unique opportunity to convene with international colleagues to
share, learn and brainstorm how we can improve and scale up management
education for the developing world.
This has been a terrific year for GBSN. Throughout the 2012 our members and friends
made significant contributions to our mission to build management education
capacity by presenting webinars, writing articles, sharing research, producing
videos and participating in capacity building programs, all to share their
expertise with their colleagues around the world.
- New cases were produced to help train Kenyan agribusiness
entrepreneurs and health care workers battling HIV/AIDS in Africa.
- Faculty in Malaysia learned how to implement
cutting edge action-based learning techniques.
- A wealth of knowledge and expertise about case teaching and writing was
shared (and archived) during Case Method Month in September.
- And the African Management Initiative
launched this year identified critical gaps in management talent in Africa and
is already working to fill them through innovative training and support.
We were inspired and energized by the contributions of
students to our MBA Challenge Video Contest showing how they are using business
skills to make a difference in the developing world. So much so that for 2013 we’ve decided to
open up the contest to any student of business or entrepreneurship, not just

Last but not least, this year’s annual conference in Delhi
was a resounding success. It brought together educators from over 30 countries
around the theme "Management Education Powering Development.” The connections and ideas that came out of
that gathering have already born fruit, in new international collaborations
between schools and at least one new program here at GBSN.
For the success of 2012, and of the past decade, I thank our
members, our partners and supporters. I
look forward to seeing all of our friends, old and new, at the celebration in
Tunis (seen in the picture on the left) as we come together once again to share ideas and plant new ones for the
