After a decade of slow but steady economic
revival, Madagascar's progress is once again threatened by political conflict.
A very poor country, it has one of the fastest rates of population growth in
the world, at current rates doubling every 27 years which may compound the
already massive deforestation. Apparel is a key industry and tourism remains an
important part of the economy. Through the IFC, GBSN explored ways of
strengthening the tourism sector through improved management.

post-secondary educational system in any country is a critical precursor to ensuring that
the workforce of tomorrow will possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to
create and manage new businesses, to privatize and restructure existing enterprises, and
to regulate business activity effectively-all elements of a robust private sector.
