After a decade of slow but steady economic revival, Madagascar's progress is once again threatened by political conflict. A very poor country, it has one of the fastest rates of population growth in the world, at current rates doubling every 27 years which may compound the already massive deforestation. Apparel is a key industry and tourism remains an important part of the economy. Through the IFC, GBSN explored ways of strengthening the tourism sector through improved management.
