Managers in the public sector have a strategic role in creating an enabling environment for businesses and local stakeholders to contribute to economic and social development in society.

Management education plays key role in preparing these managers in the public and private sectors to work together towards development goals.This webinar will explore:

  • The meaning of "value creation” for local development
  • How business schools can engage with public managers to create an environment where public and private actors can achieve mutually beneficial goals
  • How management education can support the co-evolution of public and private stakeholders towards goals of social and economic development
  • How to embed public management and development goals into executive education programs at business schools
  • Why it is relevant for business to educate public and private managers on these issues

Students, faculty and professionals in the public and private sector with an interest in public administration are encouraged to attend and contribute to the conversation.

This webinar is presented by SDA Bocconi School of Management, which leads the working group about Public Management within GBSN. The webinar is coordinated by Manuela Brusoni and Veronica Vecchi who will present with Professor Elio Borgonovi and Professor Luca Brusati.

Presenters

Luca BrusatiLuca G. Brusati

Dr. Brusati holds a Ph.D. in Management from Bocconi University and is currently an Associate Professor of Management with Udine University, where he serves as Scientific Coordinator the Laboratory for Research in Economics and Management. He has been a visiting scholar at New York University (USA) and Universität Mannheim (Germany), and a visiting professor at Klagenfurt University (Austria), HEC (France) and the University of Malta; he teaches on a regular basis at Management Centre Innsbruck (Austria).

From 1991 to 1999 he served as an Assistant Professor of Public Management at Bocconi University and since 2001 he is serving as Adjunct Professor with the Public Policy and Management Department at Bocconi University School of Management. In 1999 he joined the European Regional Office of the World Health Organization, where he covered the post of Regional Adviser for Health Services Management, working in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Hungary, Moldova, Poland and Russia. Since 2001 he worked as a trainer, a consultant or an evaluator for a number of ministries and public sector agencies in Albania, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Tajikistan and Ukraine.

Elio BorgonoviElio Borgonovi

Elio Borgonovi is Full Professor of Public Management and Business Government Relations at Bocconi University, where he has taught for 40 years. In 2011 he received a PhD Honoris Causa from Université Paul-Cézanne, Aix-Marseille III, for its pioneering researches on public management in Italy. Currently he serves as member of the Italian Academy of Management, Academy of management, several scientific network on public and healthcare management across the world and many committees for public management reforms at local, regional, and national level. He is also Deputy Chair of ASFOR (the Italian Association for Management Development). In the past, he served as Dean of SDA Bocconi, member of the Board of EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) and of the Awarding Body of EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System).

Veronica VecchiVeronica Vecchi

Veronica Vecchi, PhD, is Professor of Public Management and Business Government Relation at SDA Bocconi, Bocconi University School of Management, since 2003 and serves as contracted Professor at Bocconi University. In 2007 – 2009 she was part time research fellow at Edinburgh University, researching on Public Private Partnership in the UK. In 2009 she took the International teaching program diploma.

She is coordinator of several research projects and executive education programs (open and custom) about business government relations, public private partnership and local development. Currently she is scientific coordinator of SDA Bocconi Public and Private Factory (a research and education network between public and private sector about public – private partnerships for infrastructure development).

She advises many Italian Public Authorities in the field of public infrastructures and local development and she is an active member of the Academy of Management, IRSPM and GBSN, where she leads with Manuela Brusoni the working group on public management.

She is also member of the Steering Committee of Landi Renzo Corporate University

Manuela BrusoniManuela Brusoni

Manuela Brusoni, is Senior Professor of Public Management and Business Government Relation at SDA Bocconi, Bocconi University School of Management, where she serves also as Director of Accreditation. She took her MBA at SDA Bocconi in 1984.

She is coordinator of several research projects and executive education programs (open and custom) about business government relations, public procurement and local development. Currently she id the Director of MaSan, an executive programme for buyers in the public sector and member of the scientific board of FARE, the Italian Association of Buyers of healthcare organizations. As Director of Accreditation, she manages the relations with international accreditation bodies and networks, such as EFMD, AACSB, ENQA.

She advises Italian central and local public authorities in the field of public procurement, management education and local development.

She serves as Chair of the Accreditation Committee of ASFOR, the Italian Association for Management Education, where she is also member of the research group on Management Education trends. She is an active member of the Academy of Management since 2004, and GBSN Ambassador for SDA Bocconi, also leading the working group on public management with Veronica Vecchi.

She is also member of the Steering Committee of Landi Renzo Corporate University
