Using gaming storyboards, the professors transform written case studies into ‘playful’ interactive hunts for information in a fully immersive, on-line, three-dimensional digital world.This method improves student focus, enhances class collaboration and optimizes student participation.
Earlier this year, Emad and Halvorson won the inaugural ECCH* Innovation in Case Teaching Global Competition. The judging panel observed that "Emad and Halvorson’s innovative approach turns cases into a truly engaging experience for a new generation of students who are always connected."

During this 60 minute webinar, Professors Emad and Halvorson will:
- Present their award winning case teaching method
- Report on their experience implementing the method with geographically remote student groups collaborating online
- Provide participants with sufficient detail to enable them to implement the method in their own teaching curriculum
Meet the Presenters:
Sabine Emad, Professor of Marketing, University of Applied Science Western Switzerland Business School
Sabine Emad is professor of Marketing at the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland – Geneva Business School (HEG). She graduated in Economics from the University of Lausanne, attained her MBA at IMD Lausanne and undertook doctoral training at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. She is currently completing her PhD thesis dissertation on game based marketing teaching in 3 dimensional virtual worlds: implementation to case study teaching in Second Life. She uses case studies extensively in her teaching and has completed the Harvard Business School case teaching training. She recently won, in collaboration with Wade Halvorson, the first case center (previously ecch) "innovation in case teaching competition” (2013) Prior to joining the academic world, She has completed a career in consulting and Industry, mostly in the area of consumer research, customer satisfaction, customer loyalty, e-business and CRM.
Sabine Emad is a member of the Board of Director of the Marketing Educators’ Association. Her research has been presented at many international conferences including the IEEE International Professional Communication Conference, the Marketing Educators’ Association Conference as well as 3 times in the Virtual Worlds Best Practice in Education Conference. She has consulted in private and public sector organizations and her research interests are in Virtual Worlds, Gamification, New Media, Social Networking, collaborative consumption, Learning technologies, Customer Service and Customer Loyalty.
Dr. Wade Halvorson, Professor of Marketing, S.P. Jain School of Global Management
Dr. Halvorson is Professor of Marketing & Head of the e-Learning Centre of Excellence at SP Jain School of Global Management, Singapore, Dubai and Sydney campuses. Wade researches and teaches in the Marketing Communications, New Media and Online Learning fields.
In 2013 Prof. Halvorson and Prof. Emad, won the inaugural ECCH Innovation in Case Teaching global competition with, "Teaching the Virtually Real Case Study." The judging panel observed that, "Emad & Halvorson’s innovative approach turns cases into a truly engaging experience for a new generation of students who are always connected." Wade recently chaired the tertiary track of the Digital Education Show Asia 2013 in Kuala Lumpur.
Graduating in Commerce from the University of Western Australia,Wade attained his MBA at Curtin University and undertook doctoral training at Lulea University in Sweden before returning to teach marketing at UWA.
Wade Halvorson is the author of "Virtual Worlds - Marketing Applications and Implications”, in which he analyses the impact of virtual worlds on marketing and the way we live and learn.Wade’s research has been published in many international journals including The Journal of Marketing Education, The Journal of Services Marketing, the Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, the Journal of Virtual Worlds Research, the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, the Journal of the Academy of Business Education and Marketing Intelligence and Planning. He has consulted to private and public sector organizations.
Before entering academia,Wade built his career in Sales, Marketing and Management roles in the Music, Movie, Advertising and Management Consulting industries. Along the way he enjoyed entrepreneurial success in publishing, e-commerce and manufacturing. He is on the board of two online learning firms, West info Services a provider of online learning content and CreditED a financial literacy education provider.
