How Can Business Educators Make a Difference at Home and Around the Globe?
Sustaining Impact Education

Saturday, August 2, 2014 8:00am-10:00am
Loews Philadelphia Hotel, Congress Room B

Business schools are increasingly looking for innovative ways to make a positive impact on society through their education, research and other activities. Around the globe pioneering educators are carving out new roles for business schools in the effort to tackle the myriad social and economic challenges our world faces. They are rethinking curricula, research, student projects, institutional partnerships, and relationships with governments and companies. What lessons have they learned working across borders to support development in emerging markets? How have they made strides supporting local growth in their own communities? Who are they partnering with and what do those affiliations look like? How can schools ensure their initiatives are more than mere marketing tools? This PDW will present current business school initiatives that are making an impact on the lives of students and their communities in both developed and emerging countries.

The facilitators will share their experiences, challenges and lessons learned to help PDW participants develop their own initiatives. Participants will learn about best practices for building positive relationships when working with diverse cultures and how to ensure their programs are locally relevant, sustainable and effective. The moderator will leverage participants’ own experiences and goals to lead an interactive discussion about how business schools can engage with communities and create impact, and how to translate these activities in valuable educational opportunities for their students. Small-group discussions focused on participants’ regional and topical interests will allow for practical, in-depth conversations between colleagues and foster potential mentoring and collaboration opportunities.
