Kenya, one of Africa's most exciting markets for healthcare, is undergoing a time of transition as decision-making authority for health services is devolved to the county level. In June 2013, at the onset of Kenya's decentralization process, CCA addressed opportunities and challenges under the new system through a presentation by Dr. Issac Malonza, Country Director, JHPIEGO Kenya.

Please join us for a renewed examination of this topic now that the devolution of Kenya's government has progressed. We are pleased to present a field perspective offered by one of this year's Mandela-Washington Fellows under President Obama's Young African Leadership Initiative, Ms. Fatma Bazahy. Ms. Bazahy currently serves as a Sub-County Medical Officer of Health in Malindi Sub-County, Kilifi County, where she is responsible for the supervision of all health facilities within the area. The first female, Muslim pharmacist in Kenya to earn the title of District Medical Offer for Health, Ms. Bazahy will share her grassroots-level observations on Kenya's changing healthcare system, shifts in decision-making authority and policy orientation and objectives.
