Today’s business environment calls for graduates who possess a global perspective: the ability to manage and lead in the context of economic, institutional, and cultural differences across countries. Yet developing students with the ability to work in cross-cultural environments remains a major challenge for business schools as they consider questions such as the appropriate balance between in-class learning and experiential learning, as well as the role of language acquisition and study abroad programs.

This seminar is designed to assist business schools in efforts to globalize their curriculum. The AACSB report, Globalization of Management Education, will serve as a guide for the seminar as we explore the challenges of tailoring business school curricula to meet the demands of an increasingly competitive and dynamic global business environment. We will examine multiple strategies for globalizing the curriculum, ranging from those designed to increase the general awareness of global issues among a wide student population to initiatives aimed at improving the global content of a single course or program. This highly interactive seminar offers case discussions and readings to enhance the learning in each session.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the forces of change in the global business environment that are raising new challenges in educating the next generation of business leaders.
  • Learn effective pedagogical approaches, strategies and techniques to incorporate new ideas and content into school-wide efforts to globalize business curriculum.
  • Understand key concepts such as semi-globalization and contextual intelligence as foundational ideas of curriculum reform.
