MERC is proud to announce that Goldman Sachs has launched 10,000 Women, a major new initiative to support entrepreneurship and management education for women across the developing world.

As announced by Lloyd Blankfein, CEO and Chairman of Goldman Sachs, this program seeks to address two of the main impediments to national development and economic growth – the lack of local management capabilities and the underrepresentation of women in entrepreneurial and business activities. ::listen to the audio cast of the launch::

10,000 Women will increase the availability of training through scholarship programs and will improve the quality of business education through partnerships which link business schools in the US and Europe with business and management schools in developing countries.

MERC has been working alongside Goldman Sachs for the past several months in an advisory capacity to design strong, sustainable programs and establish partnerships among members of the Global Business School Network and business schools throughout the developing world.

We are delighted to be part of such an important initiative and look forward to continuing our work to lessen the shortage of management skills in low-income countries by strengthening the capacity of local management schools.

Food for Thought

A competitive and vibrant post-secondary educational system in any country is a critical precursor to ensuring that the workforce of tomorrow will possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to create and manage new businesses, to privatize and restructure existing enterprises, and to regulate business activity effectively-all elements of a robust private sector.
