(April 19, 2010 NAIROBI, KENYA) The Global Business School Network (GBSN) is bringing together Deans and senior faculty from fourteen business schools and universities in Sub-Saharan Africa, along with leaders and stakeholders from the health and agribusiness sectors to discuss how to deliver quality management training programs in these two fields.

«Agriculture and health are two of the most important sectors for Africa», says Guy Pfeffermann, CEO of GBSN. «Agriculture and agribusiness employ the vast majority of African people and massive amounts of resources are poured into the health sector across the continent, so even small gains in service delivery efficiency will save thousands of lives and milions of dollars.»

The 3 day event, Partnerships for Progress: Workshop for Collaborative Frameworks in Health Management & Agribusiness, will be held at Strathmore Business School in Nairobi, Kenya from April 21-23, 2010. As an outcome of the workshop GBSN will facilitate the creation of two consortia of business schools and universities who will work with external partners to develop and deliver programs adapted to each school’s agribusiness and health markets.

Once the workshop lays the foundation for the new training programs, the new consortia will develop learning platforms for each sector and oversee the implementation of the newly developed management programs on a pilot basis. Schools will have an opportunity to test the markets and revise the newly established programs while also extending the programs to include additional local and international partners over the next three to five years.

«Business Schools are the ideal venue to support these two sectors,» explains Nora Brown, COO of GBSN, «they have the ability to provide training and mentoring, generate research and policy discussions as well as provide networking opportunitites for entrepreneurs, managers and thought leaders. In order to succeed it is essential that these sectors leverage the multi-disciplinary, practical approach of business schools, and that business schools reach beyond their traditional roles. GBSN is pleased to be the coordinating body for linking the business schools with the health management and agribusiness sector in Sub-Saharan Africa.»
