The Global Business School Network is inviting African business and management schools interested in creating new health management and agribusiness programs to attend a workshop aimed at establishing consortia focused on each of the two sectors.

Background:

The Global Business School Network is working with a major foundation to host a workshop on Leadership & Management in Health and Agribusiness.  The workshop will bring together two groups of African business schools, one interested in developing new programs in health, the other interested in developing new programs in agribusiness.  The workshop will also include international experts and potential funders.  The purpose of this workshop is to link interested schools in networks and plant the seed for new collaborative work.

Project Objective and Activities:

The objective of the project is to enhance conditions for the development and delivery of top quality management and leadership programs in health and agribusiness.  This will be accomplished by creating two consortia of African business schools, one for each program.  These consortia will provide frameworks for schools to cooperate along with international experts and development partners in drafting a business plan, developing a core curriculum and teaching materials to be adapted in each market, and delivering world class programs to health and agribusiness professionals.  In order to reach these objectives, GBSN proposes to bring together deans and senior faculty from six business schools or more – at least three for health management and three for agribusiness - along with two international experts, one in each field, and potential funders to discuss the delivery of management and leadership programs for health and agribusiness professionals. Out of the workshop a business plan will be developed along with a funding proposal for the design, development, and delivery of the two programs on a pilot basis. Following the workshop and the development of the plan, GBSN will work with the business school partners to identify the necessary funds to institutionalize the consortia and develop of the two new curricula.

Responsibilities of participating institutions:

  • Selected participants are expected to have the highest level of institutional commitment and support in developing new programs in at least one of the sectors.  This will be evidenced by accepting the following responsibilities:
  • Participation by the business school dean at the workshop
  • Identification of a senior faculty member who will take charge of the proposed program and allowing for his/her participation in the workshop
  • Actively participating in workshop discussions and activities
  • Supporting the development of the business plan and proposal directly following the workshop
  • Signing an MOU with GBSN agreeing to deliver on these responsibilities

Eligibility and Selection Process:

Participating schools will be selected for their demonstrated quality, institutional commitment, and documented interest in developing new programs.  GBSN will seek out schools that are strong, dedicated partners in this endeavor.  Membership in the Association of African Business Schools, existing heath and/or agribusiness programs, and ongoing partnerships that provide a platform for engagement are desirable attributes for selection.

Institutions must be located in Africa and must offer business and management degree programs   recognized and accredited by the appropriate authorities.

Interested institutions who wish to be considered for participation are to submit an expression of interest indicating which sector or sectors they are interested in and articulating the institutions interest in the participating in this program. Please include how such a program fits into the institution’s broader agenda and detail any relevant ongoing or near-term programs.  Additionally, please include the name(s) of the faculty who will be involved as well as the following information:
