UASM invites international professors from renowned universities to teach a course for a period of two weeks during May 30th to July 21st. These courses are taught in English and our students (a group of undergraduate, graduate and executive education students) take them as electives. These are 30 -32 hour courses and classes are usually scheduled Monday to Friday from 6pm to 9pm and/or Saturdays from 8am to 12m or from 1pm to 5pm.
On average, ten courses are taught during each International Summer School program. In 2011 UASM had professors from various universities such as HEC Montreal, ESADE, Cornell University, Audencia School of Management, The University of Melbourne, Indian School of Business and Arizona State University among others. We had courses on various innovative topics such as Marketing in the Food Industry, Logistics in the Supply Chain, Current topics in Management Consulting, Investment Decisions in Emerging Markets and Research Methods in Arts Marketing, amid other topics. More than 400 students participated in these courses.Universidad de los Andes School of Management (UASM) International Summer School program was launched in 2004 in order to give students and participants the opportunity to broaden their international perspective by being exposed to cutting edge courses that offer advanced learning in specialized management fields. These courses are taught by experts from prestigious universities around the globe and offer participants exposure to different methodologies as well as the opportunity to interact and practice their English skills.
All International Summer School courses are taught in English and are designed for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as participants from the executive education program who seek to increase their knowledge in a global and competitive environment.
Since its creation, the International Summer School program has had professors from universities worldwide. Between 2004 and 2011 a total of 67 different courses have been taught and demand for them has grown significantly from 124 participants in 2004 to 437 participants in 2011, with an average of 55 students per class. In total, 2.611 students have participated. Innovative courses have been taught in the different management fields.

1. Invited Summer School professors are paid:
a. Honorarium of US$4000 on average which will be electronically transferred approximately three weeks after the end of the course.
b. Daily stipend equivalent to US$50 per day to cover other expenses different than hotel accommodation and breakfast. This stipend will be added to the final honorarium and will be electronically transferred into the professor’s account.
c. Airplane ticket (Coach).
d. Hotel accommodation (nightly fare plus breakfast) during the length of the course. UASM will not pay for international calls, mini bar, alcoholic beverages and laundry service.
e. Local transportation: UASM will arrange and pay for the following transportation only:
i. Airport – Hotel – Airport.
ii. Daily transportation: Hotel – University – Hotel.
f. Visa procedure expenses will be reimbursed at the end of the course via electronic transfer into the professor’s account.
2. Neither honorarium nor stipends can be paid in cash or delivered at UASM; they can only be electronically transferred.
3. Faculty must provide UASM with bank account details to make electronic transfer.
4. Faculty must provide the arrival and departure dates. Regarding the airplane ticket, the professor must choose between two options:
a. UASM will buy the airplane ticket.
b. Professor will buy the airplane ticket and be reimbursed via an electronic transfer.
5. The School will only pay the hotel accommodation during the length of the course. Any additional days should be paid by the professor.
6. Each Summer School professor will have access to an office and a computer with Internet access at the School. A printer and fax machine will also be available near his/her office. Offices may be shared with other International Summer School professors.
7. Professors will be assigned an undergraduate student with proficient English skills to support him/her during his/her stay.
8. Each faculty is responsible for applying to the Colombian Courtesy Visa, to be able to take part in the International Summer School 2012.
