2009 Emerald/ALCS African Management Research Fund Award to address social good in Africa

United Kingdom, August 2009 – Emerald Group Publishing Limited and The Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS), in association with the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) and the International Academy of African Business and Development (IAABD), are delighted to offer a £2,500 (approximately US$4,000) research grant to fund an African project in the field of management research. At least one member in each research team must be based in Africa and applicants must submit their proposals before 1 February 2010.

Applications should address the dissemination of knowledge for the social good with a specific orientation toward benefit for Africa. They will be judged by a panel of experts according to a set of criteria such as the significance of the research and its originality. Also, in line with Emerald’s publishing philosophy of “Research You Can Use”, projects should make an outstanding contribution to theory and its application in the field of management research.

Last year Emerald was delighted to receive a great number of high-quality submissions. The winning research proposal was: "The human factor and public sector effectiveness in Africa: the role of organizational justice perceptions in Ghana and Uganda" by Dr Moses Acquuah (Department of Business Administration, Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, USA), in conjunction with Mr Eddy K. Tukamushaba (Head of Department of Leisure and Hospitality Management, Makerere University Business School, Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda).
