Program Officer

GBSN is seeking a Program Officer to develop and manage international events and projects that support the development of educational opportunities to improve management, entrepreneurship and leadership skills in the developing world. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the person in this position will have responsibility for successfully managing a range of activities, including research, proposal writing, program development and management of activities occurring primarily in the developing world. The Program Officer will maintain positive relationships with GBSN’s members, program partners and funders, and identify new opportunities for program activity and growth. The Program Officer will be based in Washington DC and will be an integral member of GBSN’s small, productive team.

The Global Business School Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening management, entrepreneurial and leadership talent for the developing world through improved access to quality, locally relevant education. GBSN harnesses the power of a network of over 70 leading business schools on 6 continents that share a dedication to our mission to build management education capacity for the developing world. Through international events, advocacy and local capacity building projects, GBSN facilitates cross-border networking, knowledge sharing and collaboration. GBSN programs tap the expertise of our member schools to advise, train and mentor developing world institutions and educators. Since 2003 GBSN has worked with our growing list of member schools to improve business education around the world, including helping to develop hundreds of local teaching cases in Kenya, establish a new business school in Pakistan, and bring progressive teaching techniques to a school in Malaysia. Position Responsibilities:

Program Activities (60%)

  • Manage administration, logistics, operations, consultants, evaluation and reporting for GBSN programs in all phases of development and implementation, as assignedDraft and revise program documents, including proposals, plans, contracts and reports
  • Ensure program financial expenditures and reports are in accordance with grant/contract regulations, including those of USAID
  • Recruit and manage international consultants for program activities as needed
  • Support research, partnership coordination, writing and reporting, and resource development for GBSN thought leadership activities
  • Oversee knowledge management to ensure lessons from program activities are captured
  • Manage deadlines and deliverables for multiple activities
  • Ensure all assigned programs operate in a manner consistent with GBSN’s mission and values

Program Development (30%)

  • Identify geographic and/or functional growth opportunities
  • Research opportunities for and contribute to developing proposals for grants, sponsorships and partnerships
  • Work closely with GBSN leadership to develop and maintain good relations with current and potential funders and program partners
  • Provide input on program communications based on experience and success of past programs

Operations (10%)

  • Participate in strategic planning and financial projections process
  • Represent GBSN publicly at conferences, and events; speak on behalf of GBSN about programs and mission
  • Provide thought leadership on relevant topics to GBSN; write articles, blogs and conduct research as required
  • Support Membership Engagement through program activities, network events, and annual conference
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of opportunities that provide membership value and engage new schools and professionals in the network
  • Carry out other activities as may be required in support of GBSN’s mission

Candidate profile

GBSN is looking for a talented and motivated professional with three to five years of progressive experience in international development and/or nonprofit program management who enjoys working in a collaborative and dynamic environment. A strong work ethic, creativity, attention to detail, initiative, great writing and organization will be keys to success in this position on our small DC-based team.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and work experience in an international environment. A Master’s degree in management, international development, higher education administration or other relevant field is a significant advantage, though experience and demonstrated success in a related field (management education, entrepreneurship training, enterprise development, international capacity building, proposal writing, etc.) will also be strongly considered. The selected candidate will be extremely organized and detail-oriented with strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task. Excellent critical thinking and analysis, planning, and problem solving skills are required. The ideal candidate will be a resourceful self-starter and must be able to work independently.

Candidates must have professional interpersonal skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and, ideally, Mac OS X. Experience with Salesforce and Adobe Creative Suite is beneficial. Must be fluent in English and additional languages are a plus. Some domestic and international travel will be required.

This is a salaried, exempt position.
Hours: 40 hours/week
Salary: $54k-$62k, Commensurate with Experience
