GBSN is seeking a Program Officer to develop and manage international events and projects that support the development of educational opportunities to improve management, entrepreneurship and leadership skills in the developing world. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the person in this position will have responsibility for successfully managing a range of activities, including research, proposal writing, program development and management of activities occurring primarily in the developing world. The Program Officer will maintain positive relationships with GBSN’s members, program partners and funders, and identify new opportunities for program activity and growth. The Program Officer will be based in Washington DC and will be an integral member of GBSN’s small, productive team.
The Global Business School Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening management, entrepreneurial and leadership talent for the developing world through improved access to quality, locally relevant education. GBSN harnesses the power of a network of over 70 leading business schools on 6 continents that share a dedication to our mission to build management education capacity for the developing world. Through international events, advocacy and local capacity building projects, GBSN facilitates cross-border networking, knowledge sharing and collaboration. GBSN programs tap the expertise of our member schools to advise, train and mentor developing world institutions and educators. Since 2003 GBSN has worked with our growing list of member schools to improve business education around the world, including helping to develop hundreds of local teaching cases in Kenya, establish a new business school in Pakistan, and bring progressive teaching techniques to a school in Malaysia. GBSN is looking for a talented and motivated professional with three to five years of progressive experience in international development and/or nonprofit program management who enjoys working in a collaborative and dynamic environment. A strong work ethic, creativity, attention to detail, initiative, great writing and organization will be keys to success in this position on our small DC-based team.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and work experience in an international environment. A Master’s degree in management, international development, higher education administration or other relevant field is a significant advantage, though experience and demonstrated success in a related field (management education, entrepreneurship training, enterprise development, international capacity building, proposal writing, etc.) will also be strongly considered. The selected candidate will be extremely organized and detail-oriented with strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task. Excellent critical thinking and analysis, planning, and problem solving skills are required. The ideal candidate will be a resourceful self-starter and must be able to work independently.
Candidates must have professional interpersonal skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and, ideally, Mac OS X. Experience with Salesforce and Adobe Creative Suite is beneficial. Must be fluent in English and additional languages are a plus. Some domestic and international travel will be required.
