Karachi Education Initiative
altGBSN is working with the Karachi Education Initiative, a consortium of Pakistani business leaders, to advise on the establishment of a new premier business school in Karachi, Pakistan. The Karachi Business School (KBS) will be stand-alone non-profit private institution providing Executive Development programs in 2010, Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2011, Executive MBA in 2012, and eventually an undergraduate degree program. The degree programs will focus on general management abilities with a perspective that is both international and sensitive to emerging market conditions.

GBSN established an International Advisory Board from their worldwide network of business schools to actively guide the development of the school. Over the course of one year, GBSN is developing a strategic plan, initiating a search for the dean, and outlining the faculty recruitment plan. GBSN is working closely with Javed Hamid, a GBSN senior advisor who directed the establishment of Lahore University of Management Sciences, in Lahore, Pakistan, currently one of the top business schools in the region.

Food for Thought

A nascent private sector, far too few qualified faculty members, marginal primary and secondary preparation, and historical ambivalence - or even antagonism - between higher education and the private sector all serve to exacerbate the legacy of insufficient financial investment in graduate management education activities.
