The task at hand is formidable. In Sub-Saharan Africa, for example, fewer than 50 management schools serve a population of 800 million. In contrast, India has more than 1,000 business schools. GBSN provides a world-wide framework which facilitates collaborative capacity-building activities between many of the world's top business school faculty and their colleagues in developing countries. In the words of Ernie Stern, the World Bank's former Managing Director:
"GBSN's worldwide networking with top business management schools is a novel approach to capacity building in low income countries. It taps into a deep vein of interest ensuring that the network will continue to grow. It has the potential of becoming a major driver of innovation, improved corporate governance and economic efficiency in emerging market economies."
Unlike the many bilateral links between "Northern" and "Southern" universities, which often hinge on a few faculty, GBSN draws teams from many top schools, and therefore ensures seamless program continuity. Far from "replicating standard Northern business schools", the work of these teams is driven by local needs.
GBSN's network comprises over 40 of the world's top business schools and GBSN programs span 20 countries in Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America.
